World IT Forum 2012 Opens in New Delhi

New Delhi: The Union Minister of Communications & IT and HRD, Shri Kapil Sibal today said that e-Governance not only brings the delivery of a large number of services to the people but also has an empowering effect on the common man. Inaugurating the 5th World IT Forum (WITFOR) 2012 in New Delhi, Shri Sibal said that e-Governance promotes transparency and openness which helps in keeping the people better informed resulting in a higher government accountability.

Internet Governance: A Right and an Obligation

Trivandrum: Participation of countries in the governance of the Internet is both a right and an obligation, says Dr. Katim Touray, a former Director of the Board of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). ICANN is the entity that is responsible for the co-ordinated allocation and use of global Internet resources such as domain names, IP addresses (both IPv4 and IPv6), root servers, new Top Level Domain (TLDs) and Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs).

Improved Fire Services and Civil Defence Key to Effective Disaster Management : NDMA Vice Chairman

New Delhi: Vice Chairman, NDMA Shri Shashidhar Reddy, released National Disaster Management Guidelines on Scaling, Type of Equipment and Training of Fire Services and Hand Book for Training and Capacity Building of Civil Defence and Sister Organizations. Speaking on the occasion, he said that Improved Fire Services and Civil Defence are very crucial for effective Disaster Management. Shri Reddy felt that these two subjects should be transferred to NDMA, which is the apex body for disaster management in the country, headed by the Hon’ble Prime Minister.
