Clarification on DIT Rules 2001 on Privacy Under Section 43A of the Information Technology ACT, 2000

Ministry of Communications & Information Technology (Depat. of Information Technology) has issued following press note today.

The Department of Information Technology had notified Information Technology (Reasonable security practices and procedures and sensitive personal data or information) Rules, 2011 under section 43A of the Information Technology Act, 2000 on 11.4.2011 vide notification no. G.S.R. 313(E).

Every infrastructure/service may be used for hosting variety of applications and content of any nature. The web infrastructure does not distinguish the nature of content. The technology is therefore, used for purposes which may be liked by one section of society and not liked by other sections of society. Several groups have hosted websites with obscene/objectionable content on internet for variety of purposes. Such sites can be accessed by all sections of users. Most of such websites are hosted outside the country.

32nd Meeting of Asia-Pacific Advanced Network(APAN) Begins in India

New Delhi: The 32nd meeting of Asia-Pacific Advanced Network (APAN), the first ever in South Asia, was formally inaugurated by Shri Sachin Pilot and Shri Milind Deora, Ministers of State for Communications and Information Technology here today. ERNET India in association with National Knowledge Network (NKN) and with the support of Department of Information Technology, Govt. of India is organizing 32nd meeting of APAN from 22-26 August 2011.

Government proposes to bring Right to Privacy Bill

Delhi: The Government proposes to bring out a legislation that will provide protection to individuals in case their privacy is breached through unlawful means. For the purpose it is working on ‘Right to Privacy’ Bill. The drafting of the legislation is at a very preliminary stage and details of the legislation are yet to be finalized.

This was stated by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Shri V.Narayanasamy in written reply to question in the Rajya Sabha today.

Overcharging and porting complaints against Reliance and other Telecom operators

Delih: Shri Milind Deora, the Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology today informed Lok Sabha in written reply to a question that complaints have been received against some of the telecom operators including Reliance for overcharging and preventing the customers from porting.
