Defence Services establish Cyber Emergency Response Teams (CERTs)

New Delhi : Defence Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar in a written reply to Shri Prof. M. V Rajeev Gowda in Rajya Sabha today stated that Government has taken a number of steps to protect confidential information pertaining to Defence Sector from Cyber-attack including setting up of Cyber Operation Centres for threat management and mitigation as part of Framework for Enhancing Cyber Security of Indian Cyberspace. To protect important and confidential data from Cyber-attack, the operational networks of the Armed Forces are air gapped from internet.

Supreme Court strikes down Section 66A of IT Act

New Delhi : Supreme Court on Tuesday struck down the Section 66 A of the Information Technology Act calling it unconstitutional and untenable. The section gave powers to police to arrest a person for posting allegedly "offensive" content on websites and made it a crime punishable by jail up to three years.

The first PIL on the issue was filed in 2012 by a law student Shreya Singhal, who sought amendment in Section 66A of the Act.

32,323 Indian Websites Hacked in Year 2014

New Delhi : As per the information reported to and tracked by Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) a total number of 21699, 27605, 28481 & 32323 websites were hacked by various hacker groups spread across the world during the year 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. These also include a total number of 308, 371, 189 and 155 Government websites hosted under ‘gov.in’ & ‘nic.in’ domains during the year 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.
