RBI Releases “Payments Vision 2025” to Promote Digital Payments Nationwide

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released its “Payments Vision 2025”, aimed at promoting safe, secure, fast, convenient, accessible, and affordable e-payment options for every user. The core theme of the initiative is “E-Payments for Everyone, Everywhere, Everytime” (4Es).

The Payments Vision 2025 has been developed after consulting various stakeholders and under the guidance of the Board for Regulation and Supervision of Payment and Settlement Systems of the RBI. The vision outlines activities to be undertaken until 2025, organized around five anchor goals: Integrity, Inclusion, Innovation, Institutionalisation, and Internationalisation. It encompasses 47 specific initiatives and defines 10 expected outcomes, building upon the earlier Payments Vision 2019–21.

RBI has been issuing periodic Payments Vision documents since 2001, providing strategic direction and implementation plans for the structured development of India’s payment and settlement systems.
