Rs.6.05 Lakh Penalty against Unsolicited Callers and Message Senders, 410 telephone disconnections

New Delhi: Shri Milind Deora, the Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology informed Rajya Sabha today in a written reply that the Telecom Regulator Authority of India (TRAI) has recently imposed regulations to curb unsolicited calls and messages to mobile phone users by telemarketers and telecom companies. Since coming into force of “The Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations, 2010” from 27th September 2011, the number of unwanted commercial calls/SMS has come down substantially.

Un-authorised use of Satellite Telephones by Foreign Tourists could pose a threat to national security:Milind Deora

New Delhi: Shri Milind Deora, the Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology informed Rajya Sabha today in a written reply that instances have come to the notice regarding use of satellite phones by foreign tourists in India. It has been found by police/security agencies that on few occasions foreign tourists, while visiting India are carrying satellite telephones such as Thuriya, Iridium etc without having any permission for the same.
